BLOOMINGTON – A semitrailer truck carrying a wind turbine tower through the Twin Cities snarled traffic for about three hours, starting about 11:30 a.m., Wednesday when it failed to make a turn at Main and Empire streets in Bloomington, police said.

Bloomington police assisted a crew from E.W. Wylie Co. of West Fargo, N.D., in steering a flatbed truck carrying a 178-foot-long tower through the intersection. It was one of two such trucks carrying turbine towers routed through city streets instead of the interstate to comply with Illinois Department of Transportation bridge restrictions.

They were on their way from New York to Utah.
