Council says wind farm fears ignored

ABC Ballarat, www.abc.net.au 3 November 2010

Moorabool Shire Mayor Pat Toohey says the Victorian Government has ignored the concerns of residents near two wind farms it approved earlier this week.

The Government granted planning permits for the $880 million Moorabool and Yaloak South wind farms, near Ballan.

The farms will have a combined total of 121 turbines and generate up to 350 megawatts of electricity annually.

Councillor Toohey says the Government has ignored the community’s concerns in an effort get green votes.

“Clearly the State Government have taken no notice of the community,” he said.

“They’ve clearly gone about chasing green votes with these decisions, especially only hours before caretaker mode and it’s very clear that the months and actual years of discussions about better planning processes have been ignored.”
