No wind turbine on Lake Erie

The Blade, toledoblade.com 1 November 2010

Lake Erie is a public trust. Building a massive and invasive wind turbine is no way to utilize Lake Erie. The project would require massive and disruptive dredging and waste millions of taxpayer dollars in subsidies.

Privatization of a public trust to benefit large corporations and foreign entities is an idea that no politician should support. General Electric, which will provide the turbines, will partner with China’s Harbin Electric on offshore wind turbine manufacturing. The turbines will probably be made in China.

Alpine Ocean Seismic Survey, which is responsible for the lake-bed survey, is a part of the Gardline Group of Great Britain.

This is a Pandora’s box of trouble. And the people of Ohio will get to subsidize foreign workers by paying higher tax rates and utility bills.
