Villagers asked to make 24-mile round trip to view wind farm exhibition

Lincolnshire Echo, www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk 27 October 2010

Wainfleet residents will have to make a 24-mile round trip if they want to find out more about a proposed wind farm.

RWE npower renewables will be holding an exhibition on Friday and Saturday at Stickford Community Centre to show how proposals for a four-turbine wind farm on a site at Wainfleet St Mary Fen could look.

Ward councillor Kevin Smith said: “For residents of Wainfleet and Friskney, looking back towards the Wolds is quite scenic and to stick these turbines there will be a blot on the landscape.

“A lot of residents have raised concerns since they started receiving mail about the exhibition.”

The exhibition will include computer-generated images showing how the proposed wind farm could look and RWE staff and independent specialists will be able to answer any questions.

The exhibition location will see residents being required to travel the 12-mile route across country in order to visit the displays.

RWE senior developer Charlotte Healey said: “We did consider using a number of other venues including the OAP hall in Wainfleet and the village hall in Friskney for the public exhibitions, but, unfortunately, they were fully booked.

“We wanted to hold the exhibition as soon as possible to allow local residents to be involved in the consultation process and as Stickford Village Hall was available, we decided to use this venue as it was suitable for the event.”

Ms Healey added: “We will be presenting the most up-to-date information about the site.

“Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions and fill in feedback forms at the exhibitions as we are interested in the community’s views and knowledge.”

The site could generate the electricity equivalent to supplying the approximate domestic needs of up to 5,400 average UK households each year.

The public exhibition will take place at Stickford Community Centre on:

Friday October 29, 4pm to 7pm

Saturday October 30, 10am to 4pm.
