Other renewable sources would outperform wind

I write in response to a reader’s response to my Sept. 23 letter, “Why must wind farm be so ‘ginormous’?”
Fortunately we now have a networked power system that is the envy of the world. Unfortunately wind power is a random-time varying power source that cannot be added efficiently to the modern networked grid. However, Cape Wind’s proposal documentation appears not to address this fatal flaw in its proposal.
The “ginormous electrical energy demand” is a manufactured demand in the Massachusetts plan of renewable energy quotas that push renewable demand; its solution could be solar or geothermal rather than Cape Wind. The Cape Wind environment includes seasons of hurricanes and northeasters unknown to the U.K. project in Kent.
Chances are good that Cape Wind will never amount to more than an eyesore of 130 blown-down, rusting wind turbine hulks in Horseshoe Shoal that never produce the promised energy output but whose wreckage prevent shoal fisherman from earning a decent living at sea, while bankrupting the consumers and utilities for Cape Wind ginormous profits.
