Wind farm proponent awaits powerline nod

A global wind energy development company says it is still pushing for its proposed billion-dollar wind farm to be build near Hughenden in Queensland’s north-west.
Windlab is planning to build a wind farm which would hold about 300 turbines and connect back into the national electricity grid.
The company’s general manager, Richard Mackie, says it is hoping to hear soon if a powerline will be built between Mount Isa to Townsville, before the project can move ahead.
“Well we’re very optimistic that the connection will proceed. We’re developing the project on the basis the connection will go ahead,” he said.
“If an announcement doesn’t happen within a few months though, that would seriously call into question as to whether the transmission line is going to happen at all and therefore that would probably put the brakes on the wind farm pretty quickly.”
