Blowback to local wind farm project

www.telegram.com 17 October 2010

I am writing as a resident of Blueberry Hill in Webster to add a voice to that of many of my neighbors’ in urging officials in the town of Douglas to question the wisdom of proceeding with the wind farm project proposed for our area.

The concept of clean energy is not debatable. It is an idea that should be expanded and pursued, but in a responsible manner. With regards to wind turbines, there is enough credible evidence pertaining to health issues, flicker effects, noise pollution, vibration and various other matters to warrant serious concern about the placement of the turbines close to residential areas â€“ in this case as near as 1,000 feet to some of our homes. Furthermore, given the proximity of the turbines, the blasting that will be necessary for the installation of these machines could very well have an adverse effect on our private water sources.

Unfortunately, we that are most affected by this plan have only a voice and not a vote on the subject. Given the information available, I would hope that those that do have the final say on the matter give sincere consideration to the legitimate concerns of the residents in the region before final decisions are made.
