Darrington: Fresh plans for wind turbines

Yorkshire Evening Post, www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk 15 October 2010

A windfarm is being planned near Darrington just months after a campaign by local residents saw plans to put up towering turbines rejected.

Waste Recycling Group (WRG) propose to put up eight turbines at their Darrington Quarry site.

The company will host a public exhibition in Pontefract so residents can look at the plans.

As reported in the YEP earlier this year, separate plans by Banks Renewables for five 125-metre turbines on land off Westfield Lane, Darrington, were refused in June after a public inquiry.

Residents said they were too close to people’s homes.

The fresh proposals by WRG would see eight turbines put up at a maximum height of up to 125m.

The firm say they would be capable of generating enough electricity to power up to 11,500 homes and that extensive feasibility studies have been carried out to ensure the site is appropriate for development.

* The public exhibition will be in the Function Room at Mid-Yorkshire Golf Club, Havercroft Lane, Pontefract on November 2 between 1pm and 8pm.
