Horror greets turbine plan

Morpeth Herald, www.morpethherald.co.uk 8 October 2010

A pair of towering wind turbines have been greeted with horror for changing the rural skyline.

The structures have been built between Blagdon and Cramlington at the Shotton opencast coal site.

Local councillors refused permission, but were overruled by the previous Government’s Communities Secretary Hazel Blears.

At a meeting of Northumberland Planning and Environment Committee on Tuesday, Coun Wayne Daley said he could not understand how the turbines had been allowed and he had been inundated by calls from local people criticising the development.

“I am shocked that that was ever approved by the Secretary of State. I’m appalled,” he said.
