Campaigners plan protest exhibition in opposition of Molesworth wind farm

An action group campaigning against the construction of a wind farm of up to eight turbines near to Molesworth and Bythorn will be hosting a protest exhibition.

The Stop Molesworth Wind Farm Action Group has organised two exhibitions to take place in a marquee outside Molesworth Village Hall this Friday (October 8) and Saturday (October 9).

At the same time, RWE npower representatives will be inside the hall exhibiting plans for a wind farm on land off the A14 north of Molesworth, Bythorn and Keyston.

Zoe Wood, who handles PR for the action group said it was important for people to see both sides of the argument.

She said: “We want people to understand both sides and then make up their mind. We won’t be scaremongering or twisting people’s arm to say no.

“We want residents to understand the proposal, research implications for themselves and make their voices heard.”

The mother of two young children said she opposed the development because of the “huge visual impact” on the landscape and the potential health implications.

Ms Wood, of Main Street, Bythorn said: “Members of the action group are furious at the proposal. We are not slamming wind farms in general it’s just this is not the right place for such a development.

“There is huge concern in the villages. We are a small, close community and I have not heard from one person who feels it’s the right place for a wind farm.

“We are absolutely determined to fight this.”

The action group includes residents from Bythorn, Molesworth, Keyston, Brington, Clopton and Old Weston.

As part of the action group exhibition there will be a blimp flying at the height of the proposed wind turbines.

RWE said their exhibition will allow them to present “the most-up-to-date information about the site”. There will be computer-generated images of how the proposed wind farm could look and staff will be available to answer questions from the public.

A spokesman for the company said: “Onshore wind farms are vital if the UK is going to make its contribution to the global effort to tackle climate change.”

INFORMATION: Both exhibitions will run from 4pm to 7pm on Friday and from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.
