Council backs pylons protest

A campaign to stop an electricity substation and connecting pylons being built has received the support of the district council.
RWE npower renewable’s phase-one consultation into three potential sites for a substation to connect the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm to the National Grid ended on Friday.
The proposed sites at Monksthorpe, Welton Le Marsh and Sloothby have met with opposition from local campaigners concerned about the impact on the environment and landscape.
ELDC requested a meeting with National Grid to discuss how it proposes to connect the substation to the grid if permission is granted.
Following the meeting, leader of ELDC Councillor Doreen Stephenson described the consequences of a substation and pylons as catastrophic.
She said: “It is not acceptable for multi-national companies to overpower small communities by forcing their plans on them – they have no concept of what this will do for our economy and landscape.
“We will object to any proposal that will see our wonderful rural communities industrialised.”
The final decision on whether to grant planning permission for the will not be made by ELDC, but the council has said it will continue to do everything it can to understand the facts and implications for local people.
A spokesman for National Grid said no decisions had been made by as to how the wind farm will be connected to the national grid system.
