‘Stop’ say windfarm protesters

A protest group set up to oppose plans for a windfarm in The Lenches has challenged developer Scottish Power Renewables to show it “possesses a social conscience” and withdraw its application.

Vale Villagers Against Scottish Power (VVASP) has urged the energy giant to scrap its plans after claiming that two independent reports had said the turbines would be detrimental to the area.

VVASP has pointed to two reports compiled by MAS Environmental, on behalf of Wychavon District Council, which looked into the noise impact of the turbines, while another report by Tyldseley Associates examined the landscape and visual impact.

In a letter to SPR, chairman of VVASP Dr Rod Stroud said: “In light of the recently published reports we write on behalf of the overwhelming majority of Lenches residents to formally request that you now withdraw your planning application.

“Our residents have endured almost two years of uncertainty, stress and deep anxiety due to your scheme. All the concerns people had about just one critical aspect, noise, is now in the open.

“Prior to the MAS report residents were fearful of the unknown levels and impact of noise. Now they are fearful of the known impact of noise. The report verifies what local residents have believed all along, that this is an inappropriate area for wind turbines.

“The landscape and visual impact report clearly shows your turbines would be ‘inappropriate to and not integrate with local landscape character’. You now have an opportunity to demonstrate that your organisation does listen and you possess a social conscience.”

Scottish Power Renewables spokesman Derek Christie said: “We have received the noise and landscaping reports and are considering them. We will pass any comment to the council in due course.”
