Council invalidates West Clare windfarm plan

Gordon Deegan, The Clare People, www.clarepeople.com 29 September 2010

Plans for a €45 million windfarm in west Clare have been invalidated by Clare County Council. Last month, McMahon Finn Wind Acquisition Ltd lodged plans for a 390 foot twelve turbine windfarm in Shanavogh West and Shanavogh East near Miltown Malbay and a five turbine development in the Coor West townland at Mullagh. The proposal lies across 650 acres of farmland and landowners are set to be benefit from the project through the leasing of land. Along with Mr McMahon, Ennis native Pat Taylor and Galway man Bobby Finn are also involved in the scheme. The site is two miles away from the proposed €200 million Mount Callan windfarm. Submissions in support and opposition have been lodged in relation to the plan. However, the County Council has invalidated the plan on the grounds that the planning notice at the site did not properly describe the development. The plans have been returned to the applicants and they must resubmit the plans with the entire process to start again.
