Tourists turn backs on turbine Galloway

Tourists have told a holiday park boss that they will turn their backs on Galloway if the proposed offshire windfarm for Wigtown Bay proceeds.
Visitor, some of whom have spent their summers at Mossyard Caravan Park for generations, have written to owner John McConchie and the Scottish Government outlining their fears for the region’s tourism and threatening to seek alternative holiday destinations should the 90-turbine plan crop up.
Howard Sidlow from Worsley told John that his unforgettable experiences of viewing the landscapes and seascapes around the Solway would be dashed should the proposals go ahead.
He said: “Who is going to journey to the Solway Coast to stand and look at an array of giant wind turbines? Certainly not us.”
John’s mother Caroline, who befriended these and many more tourists when she ran the site for 20 years before her son, said she cannot understand why the plans are being considred so close to the National Scenic Area of Fleet Valley, which binds the park into a contract preventing it from expanding or changing drastically.
She said: “Galloway has always been acknowledged as “the natural place” and the proposal to site a windfarm so close to an area of outstanding natural scenic beauty has left our visitors struggling to understand why.”
