The Taylorville city council is eyeing an ordinance to ban wind turbines inside the city limits.
Alderman Shawn Burtle says some community members have approached the council, claiming the wind turbines would create noise and potential danger if ice forms on the turbines.
There currently aren’t any turbines inside the city limits. A wind farm is planned outside of Taylorville. Council members say they have nothing against that farm since it would be in a rural area, outside of the city limits.
Aldermen say if the ordinance passes, they would be willing to consider reversing it if people want to see wind farms built inside the city.
A public hearing will be held about the turbine ban. The date for that hearing hasn’t been officially set yet.
