House prices may be hit in short-term by Wolds wind farm – estate agents

But property experts are warning that building two wind farms at Sancton could hit house prices, at least in the short term.

Cornwall Light And Power’s plan for five 100-metre turbines on land east of Sancton Hill, near Market Weighton, is recommended for approval at Thursday’s East Riding Council planning meeting.

Sancton Parish Council has objected. But the application follows a proposal to erect six turbines at nearby Sober Hill being agreed on appeal in March.

Tim Owen, branch manager at RM English Property Consultants in Market Weighton, regularly markets high-end homes in Sancton.

He said: “I’ve spoken to a couple of people who are up in arms about it because it will increase the chances of house prices dropping even more.

“I think anything negative could affect the prices in general.

“There may be a negative effect, but we would expect it to remain a sought-after area.”

Chris Ray, director at Grays and Co estate agents in Beverley, said: “The fear of it will have an impact, but the end result doesn’t have the same effect.

“It’s difficult for me to comment without knowing about other impacted areas.”

A spokeswoman for Cornwall Light And Power declined to comment.
