Canadian company shelves MT-NV transmission line

Associated Press, www.ktvn.com 17 September 2010

A Canadian company says it is shelving for now its plans to build a $3 billion, high-voltage power line from south-central Montana to Nevada due to lack of interest from wind farm developers.

TransCanada project manager John Dunn said Friday that the company has turned its focus to a southeastern Wyoming-to-Las Vegas transmission line called Zephyr.

Dunn says TransCanada successfully solicited bids from wind developers to ship 3,000 megawatts on the Zephyr line. Chinook has received less interest, but still could be pursued if more wind developers step forward. An “open season” in which companies can bid for space on Chinook ends Dec. 16.
