Ipswich loses turbine down payment

GateHouse News Service, www.wickedlocal.com 15 September 2010

Ipswich – The town lost its $26,000 down payment on the wind turbine that is supposed to power the high school/middle school when the original contractor went bankrupt.

The money will come from a Town Meeting approved bond for the turbine project.

The turbine contract has gone out to bid again and the bids are due back by Sept. 22.

“We hope to make up the money by finding savings somewhere else,” said Tim Henry, director of utilities. “Normally you have to put down 10 percent, but we negotiated a 1 percent down payment.”
