Protesters disrupt McGuinty’s tax credit message

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty got an earful Thursday from protesters unhappy with proposed wind turbine farms planned for the southern City of Kawartha Lakes.

He was in town for a tour of the $4 million Lindsay Recreation Complex upgrade project and to promote the Ontario Children’s Activity Tax Credit.

After entering the building through a back door and shaking hands with project construction workers, McGuinty was confronted by citizens regarding the wind turbines, many of them with the group, Manvers Gone With The Wind. He was bombarded with questions, but remained composed as he answered -even when interrupted.

“It’s not about alternative energy. It’s about taking a type of alternative energy and putting it in people’s neighbourhoods,” said Millbrook resident, Ryan Van-Loon.

McGuinty responded by stating the government is committed to using alternative energy sources, referring to the Liberals’ promise to shut down coal plants.

“How many coal plants have shut down?” one person asked.
