CLAYTON, ILL. – Ed DeMoss says 196 people who live in Clayton, Illinios do not want wind turbines in their back yard.

DeMoss lives in Clayton and spent time after work knocking on neighbors doors and asking them to sign a petition urging the town board to vote against a zoning change.

The petition reads, “In order to protect health and welfare, quality of life, property values, and future economic expansion of the Village of Clayton, I am signing the petition to express my view that wind turbines should not be permitted within the 1.5 mile jurisdictional limit of the Village of Clayton.”

DeMoss says, “This is our living, this is our home, we all choose to live out there so that’s the reason we want to keep it out of our zoning area because of the flicker factor, the noise and loss of property value.”

Clayton’s town board will eventually make the final decision whether or not to change their current zoning to allow wind development.

Currently, the issue is tabled under a two-month moratorium which started August 10th, 2010.

The Adams County Board approved the Adams County Wind Ordinance on the same date.

A meeting of the Clayton Zoning Board is scheduled for September 20.

By the way, the Village of Golden voted this past week to ban wind development within a 1.5 mile radius.
