County talks wind energy, oil

By John Miller, The Torrington Telegram, www.torringtontelegram.com 10 September 2010

Goshen County Planner Mel Eaton submitted a draft of proposed regulations for wind energy companies to the Goshen County commissioners during meetings this week.

Eaton also brought the minutes for the last Goshen County Planning Commission meeting in which wind energy development was discussed, with Eaton citing the only possible snag in the process of placing windmills as Fort Laramie National Historic Site.

Eaton said the historical site’s board objected to the windmills being placed in view of the site, claiming it would ruin the panoramic view and ambience enjoyed by visitors to the old fort. The historical board’s concern prompted discussion among the commissioners and Eaton as to how close was too close for the board. The general consensus was wind development companies don’t want any controversy over their projects any more than the commissioners or the planning commission do, and concessions on both sides were likely obtainable.
