Pontypool does not want wind turbines

www.mykawartha.com 9 September 2010

The Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act 2001 established many objectives, including “ensuring that only land and resource uses that maintain, improve or restore the ecological and hydrological functions of the Oak Ridges Moraine Are are permitted,” and “ensuring that the Oak Ridges Moraine Area is maintained as a continuous natural land form and environment for the benefit of present and future generations.”

In 2009, McGuinty passed the Green Energy Act, to make Ontario a leader in clean, renewable energy. Passing of the Green Energy Act sounds good on paper (green energy being today’s buzzword for good things), however it gave out Premier the right to ignore the Oak Ridges Moraine Act. Now he is trying to build wind turbines throughout the Moraine.

Mr. McGuinty, we don’t want your turbines in our moraine, or in our town, however you seem to be ignoring us. You say there will be an environmental assessment first … save the taxpayer dollars as we had this already with the Oak Ridges Moraine process.

Why not place the turbines out in Lake Ontario? Or along the 401? Per a previous letter to the editor, they may want them in Fenelon Falls. Mr. McGuinty, why not place them in your backyard in Rosedale? You could earn an extra $8,000 per year.

I suggest you find an alternative location. Since wind turbines do not require sunlight to operate, maybe you should place them where the sun doesn’t shine. I, along with many others in my community, would be more than happy to assist you with the installation.

When is the next election?

Chris George
