Signs protesting plans for a wind farm near Millbrook have begun popping up in Cavan Monaghan Township.
These reflect a growing concern over the project, said County Rd. 21 resident Marion Thompson.
“I have been doing a lot of research into industrial wind turbines and information I am finding makes me frightened and angry,” Thompson told Cavan Monaghan council Tuesday.
“Frightened because of the many health issues described by people living near turbines, such as headaches, dizziness, anxiety and sleep deprivation.
“Angry because the provincial government has taken away a lot of the power of the municipalities to deal with these issues, and won’t listen to citizens’ request for increased setbacks and a moratorium on these turbines until independent health studies have been completed.”
Energy Faming Ontario plans to build a turbine farm called Whispering Woods. A public meeting, set up by Energy Farming Ontario, is planned for Sept. 30 at the Millbrook Arena from 5 to 8 p.m.
Thompson said opponents of the project are holding their own public meeting. It happens Sept. 23 at Millbrook South Cavan Public School in Millbrook from 7 to 9 p.m.
