Judges certify transmission line ‘re-think’

Fredericksburg Standard, www.fredericksburgstandard.com 8 September 2010

A reevaluation of the need for wind energy transmission lines from Schleicher County (McCamey D) to the Kendall substation to Gillespie (M-K-G) seems certain following a ruling Sept. 1 by two Administrative Law Judges from the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH).

Judges Wendy Harvel and Travis Vickery have certified two issues for Public Utilities Commission consideration at their next meeting Wednesday, Sept. 15.

First to be considered is whether the Lower Colorado River Authority Transmission Services Corporation’s (LCRA TSC) application for the 345-kV Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) lines in Schleicher, Sutton, Menard, Kimble, Mason, Gillespie, Kerr and Kendall counties should be dismissed without prejudice pending the results of a further study by the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) on the need for the line.

Second, should the need for the M-K-G line be added to the PUC’s discussion of the Gillespie-to-Newton line (G-N)?

All parties have agreed to submit information to PUC by today.
