Substation is a no-go

An energy company has dropped plans for an electricity substation at a 40-acre site in the Lincolnshire countryside.

RWE npower renewables had identified land between Great Steeping and Little Steeping as a potential area to build on.

But following flooding concerns identified by the Environment Agency, it will no longer be considered.

Three potential sites remain for the substation which would connect the proposed Triton Knoll wind farm, off the Mablethorpe coast, to the National Grid.

They are based at Sloothby, Monksthorpe and Welton Le Marsh.

Triton Knoll could have up to 333 turbines and generate enough power for an estimated 898,000 homes.

A public consultation on the remaining substation sites closes on Friday, October 1.

Triton Knoll project manager Jacob Hain said: “We are really pleased with the level of responses received so far. Our decision to remove this site from our shortlist shows how individual people can help us choose the best site for our substation by providing us with their local knowledge.
