Section 83 of Chapter 169 of the Acts of 2008 provides that investor-owned electric distribution companies are to solicit proposals from renewable energy developers for the purpose of entering into cost-effective long-term contracts.
Pursuant to Section 83, Fitchburg Gas & Electric Light Company d/b/a Unitil, Massachusetts Electric Company and Nantucket Electric Company d/b/a National Grid, NSTAR Electric Company and Western Massachusetts Electric Company, in consultation with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, have today issued an amended request for proposals (“RFP”) for renewable energy projects. This RFP is being issued in compliance with orders of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities in dockets D.P.U. 10-58 and D.P.U. 10-76.
