Wind project proposed for Township 16

TOWNSHIP 16 – First Wind, a wind energy facility company, plans to build a wind farm in Township 16, which is just east of the town of Eastbrook.

First Wind Project Manager Dave Fowler said he would be moving forward with the project this fall but has yet to file an application for the development.

Since Township 16 is an unincorporated part of Hancock County and has no planning board or board of selectmen, the project will be reviewed by the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission.

Fowler said he anticipates putting up 18 wind turbines in Township 16 on Bull Hill.

First Wind still has plans to pursue a facility in Eastbrook. Those turbines would go on Little Bull Hill.

“Eastbrook certainly is an important part of our project and I want to continue there,” Fowler said. “It will be phase two.”

Details of the Eastbrook project aren’t yet known because the town has yet to finalize its wind energy facility ordinance.

Fowler said the ordinance’s standards would help shape the project’s size and location in Eastbrook.
