BLM slates wind farm meetings

Daily Miner, www.kingmandailyminer.com 23 August 2010

KINGMAN – The Bureau of Land Management, Western Area Power Administration and the Bureau of Reclamation will hold three public meetings Aug. 24-26 on the proposed Mohave County Wind Farm Project.

BP Wind Energy of North America has proposed building a wind farm of up to 335 wind turbine generators on federally managed lands in Mohave County. The site – 40,298 acres of public land – is in the White Hills area about 40 miles northwest of Kingman and 20 miles southeast of Hoover Dam. The proposed area includes 31,338 acres of BLM land and 8,960 acres of Bureau of Reclamation land. The project is anticipated to provide up to 500 megawatts of electricity.

Another scoping period has been established because of changes in the proposed area. The project no longer includes private land and the Reclamation land has been added.

The meetings will be held starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Hampton Inn in Kingman, 1791 Sycamore Ave.; at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the White Hills Community Center, 8599 W. White Hills Blvd.; and at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Dolan Springs Community Center, 15195 Pierce Ferry Road.

Residents have until Sept. 9 to provide comments on the project to the BLM.
