With Falmouth turbines, hearing is believing

Cape Cod Times, www.capecodonline.com 14 August 2010

I have been arguing with my friend in Falmouth who lives near what seems to be becoming the wind turbine plantation. I’ve been saying that it’s white noise and it shouldn’t be an issue for sleeping.

Well, a recent overnight stay changed my mind. The “whoosh, whoosh, whoosh” is unmistakable and extremely irritating. The wind that night was fairly insignificant; increased wind will increase the severity of the annoying sound.

In addition, I had previously been there watching TV in late afternoon; the strobe effect from the turbine that appeared on the wall next to the TV was very disturbing.

I am very aware (and in favor) of the need to reduce our dependency on oil, but not to the detriment of the health and welfare of our citizens. Let’s find the right locations for those turbines, and seek other methods to generate power.
