Shavington residents campaign against wind turbine plans

Shavington residents are protesting against a planning application for an 85-feet tall wind turbine at Blakelow Business Park on Newcastle Road.

They have voiced concerns about the unsuitable choice of location, which is very close to residential properties in both Main Road and Newcastle Road. They also insist it will be unsightly and noisy, while there are further worries about health risks as research about turbines indicates that shadow flicker from them affects people who suffer with migraines and epilepsy.

Residents held a meeting last week to discuss their concerns and anger at the plans.

They are being supported by their Cheshire East ward Councillors Margaret Simon and Brian Silvester.

Margaret Simon, who attended the residents’ meeting, said: “The application is due to be heard by the Cheshire East Southern Planning Committee at 2pm on Wednesday September 1 at the Municipal Buildings in Crewe. “This will be a public meeting and Shavington residents are being urged to turn out in force to support Clr Silvester and myself who will be representing them and voicing their concerns.”

Clr Silvester said: “The proposed wind turbine would be a ‘blot on the landscape’ and is totally unacceptable.

“No resident anywhere should be expected to have such monstrosity on their doorstep.”
