Human error behind turbine brake failure

ABC News, www.abc.net.au 12 August 2010

Human error is suspected to be the most likely cause of the failure of two wind turbines on Hobart’s Marine Board building.

The wind turbines folded in on themselves during blustery weather yesterday sparking fear among onlookers that parts may fall down.

The building’s owner Robert Rockefeller says there was no danger of the blades coming loose.

An investigation has found that a building contractor had failed to reset the braking mechanism after routine maintenance.

Mr Rockefeller says while it is disappointing, he will continue working with the contracting firm involved.
