Wind turbines may get go-ahead

Plans for a pair of wind turbines at Rhynie look likely to be given approval after receiving backing from Aberdeenshire Council planners.
Councillors on the Marr area committee will decide on Tuesday whether or not to give the development to the south-west of Upper Wheedlemont Farm the go-ahead.
The plans for the 265ft turbines have attracted one letter of objection which argued that the windfarm would be sited too close to Rhynie, that the nature of the development was industrial and should not be located in a rural area and that wind turbines were “not efficient due to intermittency and unpredictability of their operation”.
A report to the committee states: “It has been concluded that given the size and number of turbines proposed, the siting of the development would not create a significant detrimental impact to the surrounding landscape and can therefore be accepted.”
It adds that Rhynie is almost two miles from the site.
Councillors are advised in the report to approve the application with 30 conditions attached including that after 25 years, development will be removed from the site.
This is due to the expected lifespan of the windfarm and in the interests of safety and amenity once the plant is redundant.
