The Tippecanoe School Corp. board Wednesday put the kibosh on building a wind turbine.
The district had been investigating a partnership with Performance Services, a company that works with schools on alternative energy projects, to build a turbine at Cole Elementary School, Wainwright Middle School or in the company’s planned wind farm park.
At a board meeting Wednesday, members opted not to go forward with spending $15,000 to design a turbine. They cited a pinched budget and the sluggish economy. Superintendent Scott Hanback said the board may revisit the turbine project when the economy is better and the district’s finances are stronger.
Also at the meeting, Hanback told the board that Indiana State Superintendent Tony Bennett will spotlight Woodland Elementary School during a speech about the state of Indiana’s education system.
The school will be singled out because it’s narrowed its ISTEP achievement gaps between whites and others, including blacks, Hispanics, and students eligible for free or reduced-price lunches.
