Long wait over wind farm plan

Campaigners who began fighting plans for a wind farm nearly five years ago are calling for the situation to be resolved.

People in Bozeat joined forces with villagers in Lavendon and Harrold near the county’s border with Bedfordshire to campaign against the wind farm, which developers want to build on a site between Harrold Road and London Road in Bozeat.

The villagers launched protest group BLOT five years ago when energy provider Npower Renewables submitted the first application for the site, which is known as Nun Wood.

The plan was withdrawn but a revised proposal was submitted to the three local authorities covering the area.

Brian Skittrall from BLOT said: “In November it will be five years since they first said they wanted to do something.

“It’s crazy to have it hanging over us for that long, particularly for anyone living near the site.

“It’s not a good situation for people to be left hanging for so long.”

Wellingborough Council development control manager Mike Kilpin said: “This application has been in for some time and is very complex.

“It straddles three boroughs and as Bedford has more turbines in its area they are taking the lead and we are meeting regularly with them.

“The applicant is doing some more work on aspects of the proposal but at this time it is difficult to say when we will be ready to submit a report to councillors.”

RWE npower renewables developer Andy Lovell said: “In response to comments from consultees we are currently preparing supplementary environmental information for our Nun Wood Wind Farm application.

“When the information is available we will submit this to the local planning authorities for their consideration.”
