Hundreds of residents oppose wind turbine application

Tamworth Herald, www.thisistamworth.co.uk 12 August 2010

People living in villages next to the site of a proposed wind farm have ‘inundated’ Lichfield District Council with objections over the planning application by German company ProWind.

The plans which, if successful, will see four 420ft wind turbines sited close to Haunton, has been met with a furious reaction by hundreds of residents.

The company submitted a formal planning application in early July and it is due to be determined by Lichfield District Council in September.

Matthew Ellis, Lichfield Rural East’s County Councillor, has been supporting the locals to make their objections heard.

He said: “This proposal would see four of the largest wind turbines ever constructed on mainland UK. Whatever people’s views are on the merits of wind energy, this wind farm would change the countryside around Lichfield and Tamworth with the turbines visible from as far as five miles away. It is vital the community make their views known to the district council immediately.”
