MP adds his weight behind wind farm bid

Local MP Sir Peter Tapsell has added his support to the campaign against proposals for a wind farm at Orby Marsh.

An application for nine turbines by Mark Caudwell Ltd was submitted for the third time to East Lindsey District Council in July.

This followed a previous application in 2006 for 20 turbines, 100 metres in height, on land off Marsh Lane, which was rejected due to objections from the Ministry of Defence.

Sir Peter took time out of a walking holiday in the Swiss Alps to dictate the letter, which has now been sent to acting chief executive of ELDC Stuart Davy voicing his concerns about the proposal.

He wrote: “I wish to register my strong objection to this scheme. The scheme proposed will add to the further industrialisation and disfigurement of our coastal marshes. The cumulative effect of such schemes will, in my judgement, adversely impact on coastal tourism which is a very important source of income to my constituents.

“The turbines proposed will conflict and merge with those already existing and which are clearly visible from the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB and in the view from there to the sea. It is therefore contrary to national planning policy on intervisibility grounds.

“I should therefore hope our district council will comply with national policy and recommend to the committee this application be refused for a third time.”

An Orby Wind Farm Action Group has recently been established by the local community to fight the proposals.
