GMP fund doesn’t stop harmful windmill noise

Rutland Herald, www.rutlandherald.com 15 June 2010

I was fascinated to read the recent piece in the Herald by Mary Powell, head of Green Mountain Power, in which she introduced a “Good Neighbor Fund” for neighboring towns that would be facing the large industrial wind project proposed by GMP, the developer and a major investor in the project. It would appear now that everyone affected by this massive project will be compensated. The huge amount of federal subsidies poured into this project will now benefit the host town, the neighboring towns, the host landowner, and the many construction companies. I will even speculate that Mary Powell herself will be compensated by a tremendous bonus for all the sleep she will have lost while bringing this project to fruition. But what about the neighboring homeowners living within a mile and a half of these huge machines who can’t sleep at night for the next 25 years because the sound created by these turbines as “swish” “swish” “swish” becomes at distance a low-pitched “whump” “whump” “whump,” which easily penetrates their bedroom walls? Where is their compensation? Ms. Powell, these homeowners don’t care about your “Good Neighbor Fund.” They eagerly await your “Fair Neighbor Fund,” which will fully compensate them.
