Opposition to wind turbine plan

More than 200 people have signed a petition against plans to build a 90m-high wind turbine in Stoke-on-Trent.

Developer Ecotricity wants to build the turbine at the Sainsbury’s distribution centre in Sideway.

It said the turbine would provide the power needed for the warehouse for up to 25 years.

Residents against the turbine are concerned it would create noise pollution and distract drivers on the A500 and A34.

There are also concerns the turbine would restrict the view from homes and ruin the area’s image.

A total of 234 people signed the petition against the plan.

But three people have written letters in favour, saying it would set an example to other cities to reduce their carbon emissions.

The developers said the turbine would produce enough energy to power almost 600 homes and any surplus energy would go into the national grid.

The application will go before the planning committee on 6 August.
