The Duke of Beaufort’s Badminton estate in the Cotswolds covers a larger area than Gower.
The same aristocrat owns Mynydd y Gwair, north of Swansea. The grassy hill land is farmed by Welsh tenant farmers who have been there for generations.
The Duke does not have a single wind turbine anywhere on his Cotswold estate, nor has he applied for any!
Yet he wants to erect dozens of gigantic 400ft wind monsters on Mynydd y Gwair, in complete opposition to the wishes of his Welsh tenant farmers and the majority of the citizens of Swansea. The tranquil beauty of this haven of peace on Swansea’s doorstep will be ruined by these noisy, revolving leviathans.
This English aristocrat should stop lording it over the Welsh! If giant wind turbines are not good enough for his home in the Cotswolds, why should they be good enough for his land in Wales?
Welsh people are being treated like second-class citizens once again!
I suggest that Western Mail readers show their solidarity with the hard-working farmers of Mynydd y Gwair and send letters opposing these monstrous machines, as soon as possible, to the planning departments in Swansea City Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Wales already generates far more than double its own electrical needs.
Soon, after a 2000mw gas- fired power station is built in Milford Haven, Wales will be generating treble its needs. The rest of our production goes to England.
