Residents of two Borough villages are largely against six 130m wind turbines being erected near where they live.
Novera Energy’s plans for the structures, which would be installed between Longhirst and Hebron, were discussed at a public meeting at Longhirst Village Hall.
And at the end of it, with County councillor David Woodard, Castle Morpeth Council member Peter Angus (their wards cover the villages) and Denis Murphy MP’s Agent David Nicholson also in attendance, a vote revealed 30 residents were against, just one was in favour and nine were undecided.
Among the concerns expressed were the impact caused by the number of turbines and their size on the villages, with a number of homes in close proximity, and on the three conservation areas of Longhirst Village, the grounds of Longhirst Hall and Blubbery Woods.
Some residents said the cumulative impact of the turbines and the former Butterwell opencast site would be too great.
Others issues included that the spacing between the turbines and local rights of way were said to be below national standards, they would conflict with RAF low flying training routes and an apparent lack of discussions between Novera and RES over current plans for two wind turbines on adjacent sites.
