Windmill parts may cause traffic delays

Metro Moncton drivers will likely experience some delays while travelling throughout the region beginning today as the first of the windmills headed for Albert County are transported.

The Department of Transportation issued a traffic advisory warning drivers of delays starting today and continuing until mid-September.

The highways affected include Routes 1, 2, 128, 15 and 114. As well, Findlay Boulevard, Gunningsville Boulevard, Route 910 and Prosser Brook Road will be impacted. Drivers on Pine Glen Road to Osbourne Corner will also likely experience delays.

The wind farm parts will be transported from the Saint John port to Prosser Brook.

Delays are likely to occur on bridges and overpasses where traffic will be stopped to allow the trucks to safely cross. The pieces will be transported during the day, weather permitting.

There are 32 windmills being transported and each has nine sections. Trucks can carry only one piece of equipment at a time.
