Npower has sent leaflets to around 22,000 homes informing people of its plans to build Britain’s biggest wind farm on Mynydd y Gwair.
The developer of the scheme wrote: “Following feedback from local communities during the consultation process . . .” I have no idea which feedback she refers to as the three local polls held in the community – one of which was funded by the Assembly – all gave a resounding no to npower, as did the West Glamorgan Commoners Association.
Any consultation or feedback from the local community clearly provided npower with a total and absolute rejection of any plan to industrialise our precious unspoiled mountain. The photograph in the leaflet shows six turbines looking nothing like the height of Nelson’s Column. There is no reference to the motorway- size access roads. Nineteen of them will be needed to erect and maintain the turbines, plus quarries dynamited from the mountain for the roadstone and aggregate, readymix concrete plant, substations and, most importantly the destruction of the habitat.
This leaflet photograph does not present an accurate or actual portrayal of how 19 wind turbines 400ft in height would appear on Mynydd y Gwair.
