There’s a new wind farm sprouting in the Champlain Valley.
Horizon Wind Energy is ready to harness upstate New York’s wind. With a site already set for construction, Horizon is just waiting for a permit. And in the meantime, the company is reaching out to the community.
Costs for things like truck fuel, carpentry work, and IT services – all needed during construction – could be outsourced. But, Horizon said it would rather offer the jobs to locals.
Construction manager Tom Burke said, “Part of our philosophy as a company is we want to involve the community in what we’re doing. We don’t want to just come in here and build a wind farm and take off.”
Horizon hopes to start construction of the towers this fall, and once they’re up, they will create enough power to run approximately 60,000 area homes.
