Logan votes to tighten wind turbine restrictions

Logan Township supervisors have adopted a tougher ordinance governing wind turbines.

The amended ordinance passed by a 3-1 vote. Township officials held a series of public hearings over the past few months, weighing opinions of wind turbine experts and township homeowners. The amended ordinance puts in to place stricter noise and placement standards. And it addresses tougher enforcement issues. Also, a wind turbine is not allowed to be visible from the Horseshoe Curve.

Gamesa Energy currently has plans to build a wind farm off Route 36 inside the township’s designated wind zone. Representative Tim Vought called the amended ordinance a compromise between all parties.

Supervisor Jerry Fulare cast the dissenting vote. Fulare says he wants tougher noise restrictions put in place.

The updated ordinance will go into effect in just a few weeks.
