Input sought for Hepburn Shire wind energy draft

Community input is needed on draft wind energy facility guidelines.

Submissions to Hepburn Shire Council close on August 15.

The guidelines developed by the council provide an overview of the wind energy facility planning approval process, the State Government policy towards wind energy facilities, protecting rights of land owners and occupiers, and protecting rights of wind energy facility proponents and operators.

Infrastructure and Development director Rod Conway said the guidelines indicated the development controls the council could consider in relation to future applications for wind energy facilities.

“This will include location constraints, prescribe what applicants would be required to provide council with, and define who is the responsible authority for making wind energy facility applications,” he said.

“It will also ensure that road access issues are taken into account and provide provisions to restore land, once it was no longer required as a wind energy facility.”

The council is guided by the State Government policy, which supports wind energy generation in appropriate locations having regard to the environment, economic and social implications.
