Councillors in Staffordshire will decide whether to throw their support behind a group fighting plans for a wind farm in the area this week.
Bleakhouse Wind Farm Action Group (BWFAG) has written to Burntwood Town Council outlining concern surrounding the proposals for the former Bleakhouse open cast mining site between Burntwood and Heath Hayes. The group hopes the council will lend its support to their cause.
The issue is on the agenda for the town council’s planning applications committee meeting tomorrow night.
Harworth Power has submitted an application to Cannock Chase District Council for permission to build three wind turbines on the land, but residents in surrounding areas say the towering structures will be too close to their homes, too noisy, and a scar on the landscape.
BWFAG has been established by residents in Heath Hayes, Wimblebury, Rawnsley, Prospect Village, Chase Terrace, Gentleshaw and Norton Canes, who have joined forces to try and get the proposals quashed.
According to the group the wind farm would not generate enough electricity to justify the damage to surrounding communities.
In their letter to the council the group wrote: “The development proposed will have a major impact on several thousand homes.
“The benefit in terms of power production is very, very low and certainly will not even provide adequate power for a small percentage of that number of homes.”
