Finnish utilities Pohjolan Voima (PVO) and Oulu Energy said Thursday they saw their planned windfarm with a total capacity of up to 800 megawatts online in 2011 at the earliest.
“But that is rather optimistic a goal. To meet it, permits and equipment deliveries would have to go well,” said Lauri Luopajärvi of PVO.
In the Finnish context the project, comprising up to 162 turbines, is gargantuan given that the country’s current wind power generating capacity is all of 130 megawatts.
The turbines would be erected in shallow water about 10 kilometres offshore in the northern part of the Gulf of Bothnia.
