Huge opposition to wind farm bid

The fight to stop a wind farm coming to our area is gathering strength, after a key meeting in Ironstone Road on Monday night.

Around 160 people piled through the doors of the Ironstone Road scout hut on June 30 to air their views on the contentious issue, which would see a cluster of 250ft wind turbines erected on the Bleakhouse site, between Burntwood and Heath Hayes.

And a poll among those 160 people showed that just four were in favour of the wind farm application (lodged by Haworth Power), with just a couple more undecided – and the remainder vehemently objecting the proposal.

Dave Baker, member of the Bleakhouse Wind Farm Action Group (BWFAG), said on Wednesday: “It was a very successful meeting. We saw a good turnout, and there was some good, healthy debate.

“We went through the Haworth Power statement, and also asked all attendees to let us know their views on the proposal.

“The vast majority were against it – with only four or five in favour and a couple of attendees who said they were undecided.

“It was a lively, two-hour debate, and we were inundated with people wanting to join our Group.”

On the strength of the success of the meeting, another is planned to take place at Heath Hayes Library on Thursday July 10, between 7pm and 9pm.

“We are also looking to arrange a meeting in Wimblebury, too,” Dave explained.

Cllr Eric Drinkwater said: “Although no-one is sure yet when the planning committee (at Cannock Chase Council) will convene on this matter, the Group is totally determined to try and cover every angle in their opposition to the Harworth Power application.

“Extensive research has already been undertaken, and a document has been produced ready to be sent to Cannock Chase District Council, and it gives all the reasons why there should be opposition to this particular Wind Farm.

“Letters will be going out shortly to councillors explaining all the reasons why members of the Action Group feel that this development is inappropriately placed.”
