Weather mast gets go ahead

A weather mast proposed for land near to Cartmel has been approved subject to a string of stringent conditions.

But, at a meeting of South Lakeland District Council’s planning committee on Thursday, they said the final go-ahead will only be granted when the authority is satisfied restraints are in place.

These include ensuring the construction of the mast will not disturb nesting birds and lighting. It must also be removed after 18 months.

The mast will monitor wind speed and direction to help determine whether the site will be suitable for a future wind farm.
