Wind farm protesters all set for showdown

A local action group, opposed to the proposed development of a wind farm at the Bleakhouse site, have hailed their recent meeting as a success – and are preparing an Action Plan to spearhead their battle against council planners.

The meeting, their third, was held on Monday June 16. Members of the Group prepared for a potential showdown at Cannock Council’s Beecroft Road offices, when the matter falls before the authority’s planning committee soon.

Cllr Eric Drinkwater, Chair at the meeting, said: “It was a pleasure to chair a meeting of such dedicated knowledgeable and passionate community people, and I am quite sure that the time and effort put in warrants that the general public listen – and, more importantly, that the Cannock Chase District Planning Committee members, who will have the final say, listen also.

“Although no-one is sure yet when the planning committee will convene, the group are totally determined to try and cover every angle in their opposition to the Harworth Power Application.

“Extensive research has already been undertaken and a document has been produced ready to be sent to the Cannock Chase District Council and gives all the reasons why there should be opposition to this particular Wind Farm.

“As the Campaign gathers momentum, the Action Group are eager to communicate with all the Elected Members of Cannock Chase District Council, County Councillors whose divisions will be affected by the plan and members of the public who are likely to be affected.

“Letters will be going out shortly to councillors explaining all the reasons why members of the Action Group feel that this development is inappropriately placed. * The Action Plan will also include a Public Meeting and Exhibition starting at 8.15pm on Monday, June 30, in the Scout Hut, Ironstone Road, Chase Terrace. An exhibition at Heath Hayes Library will take place on Thursday July 10, 7pm – 9pm.

Action Group members will be at the two events to explain what the plan for the wind farm is, and why they think opposition is necessary.
